'No i don't, i believe in science and not in god.' It is not too much of a stretch to expect this answer if anybody is asked 'do you believe in god." I was one of them. I was training myself to believe only in empirical stuffs, something that can be testified, can be experimented, can be observed...and so forth, to discern only those things as valid and true which can exactly accomodate itself to the parameters of positivistic science. But now it remains challenged. The reality, lets say supreme reality is still out of line with the realms of classical science. And its not the spirituality questioned here but its the science that has yet to traverse the dimensions of 'spiritual reality' and lend a momentum to its 'measurement' version of science. Yeah not a small potato! Quantum physics must be exploring in those untrodded areas.
Truly, the world is so interconnected. 'Touch the rose and stars will be shaken' goes the saying. Whatever goes back is bound to come back!
Sometimes i chew it over if it gives meaning to relate this reciprocity with our traditional 'pitriarpan' too? It is conceived in spirituality that two objects if they have a common origin, will always remain to effect one another regardless of how far (light years) they are. A human body since built up of 'panchatatwa' - earth, fire, water, light and sky(sound) ends up in the same universe even after death (or from the standoint of universe, does this living or dead makes any difference) and so I wonder whether or not this 'pitriarpan' has anything to do with rendering positive impact to the 'dead' 'pitri', and vice versa, the giver and the receptor, by the rule, are rooted in the same origin. We tend to find myriads of such rites and rituals with one or the other scientific reasons behind . And all these waves of questions put my head in a whirl!
Unfortunately, we have failed to grasp the immense values of our own heritage and philosophies. We have accepted to be colonized and are accustomed to perceiving the world with the western eye to the extent our own wealth has remained our of sight. We should respect our matchless spiritual heritage. In similar vein, I staunchly opine they have the wonderful answers to the questions sorrounding life, universe and every other thing that concerns us. Making spirituality, meditation and yoga, routine of the day adds to our being and no wonder its propels us closer and closer to the 'true science'.

Spirituality and science in the truest of their terms, differ only in their approaches and not in findings. I bet!
yea many of our rites and rituals have not only spiritual value but scientific logic as well. However as the time passed every activities were related with God and interpreted on the basis of 'paap' and 'punya'.
ReplyDeleteNice article!! keep it up :)
I agree with you. (Is there any time, when i said i don't agree with you ?)
ReplyDeleteI think modern science is not complete to find out the truth, neither the spirituality. They, however, attempt to find it. And, of course we need to understand both of them, if we want to go near of truth.
Anyway, I won you to begin the blog. My blog has already met more than 25 postings. Just informing you hahaha...
i totally agree with you richa. but the only reason i see behind relating those rites and rituals with 'paap[ and 'punya[ is to inspire 'layman' (no offence included in this word) to abide by the former. let those rites and rituals prevail so that ppl will be able to reap the benefits even if they fail to grasp the logic behind! sadly, it was in the long run, left to be manipulated, twisted and instrumentalised by the 'power.' and this is where the blatant error lies! as far as the god is concerned, i am sure that no genres of spirituality impliy it as a 'person'. it is (and not he or she) rather a 'supreme reality'. now if you talk about 'rama' or 'krishna' or sita, for me they are merely the 'manifestaion of virtues' tailored to inspire people again. even more, some words like 'rama' are syllabled in such a fashion that they soothe the turbulent mind if verbally taken into the mind over and over again....'rama' is mantra richa....i believe
ReplyDeletedear diwakar, not doubt at all! i barely remember any such moments when you have criticized or condemned my ideas.....i knew it frm the very beginning that you are one of my greatest supporter (and this is what secretly i like about you....;;; hehehhe) so sweet of you...
ReplyDeleteand i am totally with you in saying "we should understand both science and spirituality...at the same time should not forget tht there is science in spirituality but i seriously doubt about vice versa......
WBut, u shouldn't understand me as inocent supporter of u. I support the ideas, not the persons. Similarly, I don't support anything, neither science nor spirituality, completely and blindly. I support some aspects of science and some of spirituality. I also think that sometimes science and spirituality can combine. For me, eastern astrology is such a discipline, where science and spirituality come into a same point.
ReplyDeletehey diwakar, that is what i said.....and thanks for all the supports hai.........thtts really good on your part not to take anything at mere face value and for granted....but you know diwakar, you will be stupefied to know how skepticism can be a hurdle at times on the path of wisdom...skepticism might usher knowledge for us but all the same can derail when it comes to 'wisdom.' question, questoin and question unless you make the spirituality but when you make, then leave it act on its own........just follow it blindly...the true wisdom of many things can be realized only when it is done and not merely understood............
ReplyDeleteand also this is what i am reiterating here......there is compltely a 'science' in orientology. having said this let us not turn deaf ear to the old wives tale kind of dogmas and bigottery killing our mind. most of the cultural traits we are pratising today are nothng but manipulated, twisted and polluted version of orignal heritage, not exactly in the same fashion they were engineered long long back. i would rather say because of the way they are polluted, the value they posess is llimited to a bare minimum. 'acculturation', 'false' adaptaton to the changing time and space, collision of cultures, 'power' and many more things came into play and now we feel like we are stepping into the two boats and as long as we do we wont be able lto escape the devils of illusionssssssss
